We love potatoes! We've traveled around the world writing travel books and articles and, since we were in the neighborhood, collected recipes. When we were compiling hotel information on The Great Castle Hotels of Europe, we asked all of the chefs for their potato recipes and come home with recipes for Hot German Potato Salad, Italian and Irish Potato Bread, Austrian Potato Au Gratin, Danish Potato Pie and loads of others.
We've since collected recipes from every corner of Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, South America, Australia, etc. and asked chefs and potato lovers around the world, "What's your favorite potato recipes?" Over a period of time, we've collected hundreds of replies, some unique, some ordinary. For the cover, I'm contacting great chefs around the world, looking for one (a) that looks good in a tall white hat and (b) who might be interested in writing the Forward.
This book opens with an Introduction, some history, facts and myths about the potato, tips on buying and storing potatoes, general potato preparation techniques, measurement conversions, how the potato is viewed overseas, the history of Mr. Potato Head, the different types of potatoes available in the U.S. and more. Basically, everything you wanted to know about the potato..
The rest of the book is page after page of recipes, one or two per page in the standard recipe format. Sorry, photos are not available. Overall format is flexible, based on what the publisher feels will make the best selling book. Recipes can be divided by appetizers, entrees, breads, desserts, etc.
Considering this: the potato is this country's favorite vegetable; American eats more potatoes than any other vegetable; potatoes are enjoyed in almost every country in the world; they're high in carbohydrates, have no fat or cholesterol and there are hundreds of ways to prepare potatoes. This make them the almost-perfect food. The idea of combining regular recipes with these unique, foreign recipes should make an interesting book.
