In the late 1970s, I wrote The Logo Design Book (long out of print). It was advertised thru a co-op arrangment with Advertising Age magazine and sold 3,400 copies at $50 per copy. In those days, there were no computer software programs, so logo designers sat at drawing boards and worked with pen, pencil, brush and paper. Today, there are numerous graphic programs and hardware available, some specifically designed for creating logos. Using these programs, anyone (well, almost) with a reasonable eye for layout and the patience to learn the process can design logos. This book is written for graphic artists, printers, public relations agencies, copywriters and anyone connected with the promotional/graphics/advertising business who wants to learn the art of logo designing.

In this book, I explain the process, what software is available and how to use it.
I include numerous original designs created by artists for various clients. Part Two
of the book is my collection of logos from around the world - over 400 in all,
6-8 per page in color. These are include to stimulate the readers logo designing
imagination. Many of the contributors are professional logo designers. There are
samples throughout this web page.

This isn't a book for a New York advertising agency with multi-million dollar clients.
This is a guide for the average artist or computer owner who wants to try their hand
at designing. The $50-$500 mentioned in the title is a reasonable goal for readers
interested in working with local businesses. While there are a few select artists and
designers who can earn tens of thousands of dollar designing logos for large corporations,
the majority of readers with a computer and some art talent are limited to a smaller,
local markets. If they can earn $100 designing for a small company and $350 for a
larger company, they've met their goal. I myself have sold over 300 logos to
businesses around Florida, New York and Colorado. I've earned as much as
$750 and as little as $50.
